Overview

Damodar Kunda Yatra is considered one of the most important yatra for Hindus. Damodar Kunda is a serene, beautiful and highly religious site which lies in the north east of Mustang District at an altitude of 5400 meters. Moreover, Damodar Kunda is mentioned in Barah Puran as the manifestation of Lord Vishnu, with the Kunda as his head and Muktinath as his mouth. Furthermore, Shaligram chakra is considered to be his Chest and Ruru Kshetra of Gulmi district as his waist. Devaghatam is considered to be Lord Vishnu’s Knee.

Damodar Kunda is a famous religious lake. It lies up in a rain shadow area of the Himalayas. It is in the north of the famous Annapurna range of the upper mustang region between Kagbeni and Muktinath. However, it is important to know that Damodar Kunda is cold and windy as well as very beautiful place. In addition, in the second column of Barah Puran, Lord Krishna has said that whoever pays a visit to this lake and takes a deep bath, they will be free from all the sin.

Further more, from this place the views around are spectacular. You can see the Tibetan Plateau and Damodar Himal to the north and massive Annapurna Himalayas to the south. There are 65 peaks in this Himal range including Damodar Himal, Muktinath Himal and Bhrikuti peak. Many Hindu and Buddhists pilgrims visit this lake every year during the full moon in August. This festival time would be great to visit this place. While visiting Damodar Kunda you are in the land of Mustang. It is the hidden Kingdom of Himalayas. Damodar Kunda has religious significance and is very important for all Hindus and Buddhists. They believe that their life is incomplete without visiting this place once in their lifetime. So make your Visit to Damodar Kunda.
