Lower Mustang

Lower Mustang trekking is a perfect blend of adventure and cultural experience within a short period of time. This trek is best for those who are eager to visit the Kingdom of Tibetan Buddhists. This classic as well as rewarding trek takes us to the border of one of the most remote kingdoms on earth, within a reasonable time frame and without ascending to extreme altitude. The landscape is very much related to Tibet.  The villages are in Tibetan style with whitewashed houses tucking the firewood on the roof. People are still practicing the Tibetan Buddhism in a pure manner. Lower mustang trekking will also take you to the holy temple Muktinath. It is both Hindu as well as Buddhists pilgrimage sites.

Also, altitudes on this trek are not too high. In addition, flying from Pokhara to Jomsom can also speed up your journey.  Also, you will not need any expensive permit to Trek Lower Mustang. This region has the largest protected diversity area in Nepal and further passes by the oldest monastery and unique lifestyle of the people.

Upper Mustang

Upper Mustang trekking is one of the best treks to do in Nepal. Only a limited number of trekkers are allowed each year. To trek Upper mustang is a rare privilege. The district of mustang was a separate kingdom within the boundaries of Nepal until 1950. This trekking was officially opened in 1992. Trekkers need a special trekking permit and must be accompanied by the government appointed official.

Mustang is cold in winter and is always windy and dusty throughout the year. So, trekking in winter season can be a bad idea. Lo manthang, the old capital, is the major highlight of this trek. Once you reach there, you need to spend one extra day there to soak in the sights and sounds of this unique walled settlement.  This trek also offers the spectacular trekking experience in the remote Trans Himalayan mountains region of Nepal. One can witness the amazing experience to admire the uniqueness of tree-less landscapes, rocky trials and views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna as well as other Himalayas.
